Cigarettes and Alcohol Lyrics

Cigarettes and Alcohol Lyrics - "Cigarettes & Alcohol" is a song by English rock band Oasis, written by Noel Gallagher. It was released as the fourth single from their debut album Definitely Maybe, and their second to enter the UK top ten in the United Kingdom, peaking at number 7 (three places higher than "Live Forever"), eventually spending 35 weeks on the charts, re-entering the Top 75 on several occasions until 1997.

Whereas earlier singles "Supersonic" and "Shakermaker" had used psychedelic imagery, and "Live Forever" used softer chords and tender lyrics, "Cigarettes & Alcohol" was the first real taste of the wilder attitude that Oasis appeared to be promoting. The song proclaims the inherent appeal of cigarettes, alcohol, and drugs as a remedy to the banality and seemingly futile nature of the working class life. Lyrics such as "Is it worth the aggravation to find yourself a job when there's nothing worth working for?" taps into the common sentiment of western disenchantment that was particularly common in the mid-1990s.

Upon first hearing the song, the man who discovered the band, Alan McGee, claimed that the song was one of the greatest social statements anyone had made in the past 25 years.

The song was the second case in which Oasis was accused of plagiarism, the first being Shakermaker. The main riff of the song is purportedly "borrowed" from "Get It On" by T. Rex and Little Queenie by Chuck Berry, and bears a similarity to the opening of Humble Pie's cover of "C'mon Everybody".

The song was released with three B-sides: a cover version of The Beatles' "I Am The Walrus"; "Listen Up", a six-minute slow rocker musically similar to Supersonic; and the popular, slightly punk-styled "Fade Away", whose wistful lyrics are about the destruction of "the dreams we have as children" (this phrase was used as the title of Noel Gallagher's first live solo album. All these songs appeared on the compilation The Masterplan.

Is it my imagination
Or have I finally found something worth living for?
I was looking for some action
But all I found was cigarettes and alcohol

You could wait for a lifetime
To spend your days in the sunshine
You might as well do the white line
'Cause when it comes on top...

You gotta make it happen!
Is it worth the aggravation
To find yourself a job when there's nothing worth working for?
It's a crazy situation

But all I need are cigarettes and alcohol!
You could wait for a lifetime
To spend your days in the sunshine
You might as well do the white line

'Cause when it comes on top...
You gotta make it happen!

Bring It Down Lyrics - Oasis

Bring It Down Lyrics - Oasis

What was that sound ringing around your brain?
Today was just a blur you gotta head like a ghost train
What was that sound ringing around your brain?
You're here on your own who you gonna find to blame?

You're the outcast you're the underclass
But you don't care because you're living fast
You're the un-invited guest who stays 'till the end
I know you've got a problem that the devil sends

You think they're talking 'bout you but you don't know who
I'll be scraping your life from the soul of my shoe tonight.
Bring it on down. Bring it down for me
Your head's in a fish tank

Your body and your mind can't breath
You're the outcast - you're the underclass
But you don't care - because you're living fast
You're the un-invited guest who stays 'till the end

I know you've got a problem that the devil sends
You think they're talking 'bout you but you don't know who
I'll be scraping your life from the soul of my shoe tonight.

Supersonic Lyrics Oasis

Supersonic Lyrics Oasis - "Supersonic" is a song and debut single by the English rock band Oasis, written by lead guitarist Noel Gallagher. The song appears on their debut album Definitely Maybe, released in August 1994.

The song was released on 11 April 1994 and peaked at number 31 on the UK Singles Charts, Oasis's lowest-peaking single. However, over time it has amassed sales of over 215,000, making it their 13th biggest selling single ever in the UK, even outselling their 2002 number one "The Hindu Times", and both of their 2005 number ones.

"Supersonic" was also the band's first single to chart in the United States, where it peaked at number 11 on the US Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart on 10 December 1994. The song was performed by the band on their debut national TV performance on Channel 4's The Word. It remains a favourite song of both the band and their fans (on the Definitely Maybe DVD, Noel cites it as his favourite Oasis song). The single went silver in the UK in 2006.

In March 2005, Q magazine placed "Supersonic" at number 20 in its list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Tracks. In May 2007, NME magazine placed "Supersonic" at number 25 in its list of the 50 Greatest Indie Anthems Ever.

In an interview, Noel Gallagher has said that it is his favourite Oasis single, and he kept playing the song live after the band broke up.

"Supersonic" was written and recorded in a single day at The Pink Museum recording studio in Liverpool with Chris and Tony Griffiths of The Real People. The band was there to record "Bring It On Down" but first, as a warm up, they started jamming together. Soon Noel Gallagher was humming a melody over McCarroll and Bonehead's rhythm until he called the jam to a halt as it was time to start recording "Bring It On Down".

Real People's Tony Griffiths then entered the room, informing them that their "jam" had the makings of a hit record. A few minutes later, during which Gallagher wrote the lyrics in a corner, "Supersonic" had been born. Tony Griffiths guided Liam through the tune and provided backing vocals. The recording was completed in 11 hours and it was never remixed.

The identity of "Elsa" has caused confusion. The lyrics say: She done it with a doctor/On a helicopter/she sniffin' in a tissue/Sellin' the Big Issue. Gallagher has remarked: "Someone told me "Supersonic" was about teenage prostitution. Shit!". It has since been revealed that Elsa was a nine-stone rottweiler with a flatulence problem. The dog belonged to the sound engineer Dave Scott and was in the studio on the day the song was written, hence the line "she's into Alka Seltzer".

Gallagher has said in interviews that despite their similarities, "Supersonic's" guitar solo was not a deliberate copy of the riff to George Harrison's 1971 single "My Sweet Lord".

Oasis recorded two videos for the song for UK and US release. The UK version features the band playing on a roof, similar to The Beatles' rooftop concert. The US version features outer space views, the band in a car, big toy dinosaurs, and the band performing the song in a dark room. Scenes from this video can be seen on their debut single from their second album (What's the Story) Morning Glory?, on Some Might Say. Only on this video the scenes are in black and white.

The single was released with three B-sides: Take Me Away, featuring only Noel Gallagher on acoustic guitar and vocals, I Will Believe, a mid-tempo rocker taped live in 1993, and a demo of Columbia, which later appeared on the band's début album Definitely Maybe.

In a 2009 interview with the Dutch radio station 3FM, Noel Gallagher said that after "Supersonic" was written and recorded, he and the rest of the band gathered at guitarist Paul Arthurs' house as the song played at a certain time on BBC Radio 1. The cover depicts the band and their instruments. The black Rickenbacker is Johnny Marr's guitar.

I need to be myself
I can't be no one else
I'm feeling supersonic
Give me gin and tonic

You can have it all but how much do you want it?
You make me laugh
Give me your autograph
Can I ride with you in your BMW ?

You can sail with me in my yellow submarine
You need to find out
Cause no one's gonna tell you what I'm on about
You need to find a way for what you want to say

But before tomorrow
Cause my friend said he'd take you home
He sits in a corner all alone
He lives under a waterfall

No body can see him
No body can ever hear him call
You need to be yourself
You can't be no one else

I know a girl called Elsa
She's into Alka Seltzer
She sniffs it through a cane on a supersonic train
She made me laugh

I got her autograph
She done it with a doctor on a helicopter
She's sniffin in her tissue
Sellin' the Big Issue

She needs to find out
Cause no one's gonna tell you what I'm on about
She needs to find a way for what you want to say
But before tomorrow

Cause my friend said he'd take you home
He sits in a corner all alone
He lives under a waterfall
No body can see him

No body can ever hear him call

COLUMBIA LYRICS - OASIS

There we were now here we are
All this confusion nothing's the same to me
There we were now here we are
All this confusion nothing's the same to me

I can't tell you the way I feel
Because the way I feel is oh so! new to me
I can't tell you the way I feel
Because the way I feel is oh so! new to me

What I heard is not what I hear
I can see the signs but they're not very clear
What I heard is not what I hear
I can see the signs but they're not very clear

So I can't tell you the way I feel
Because the way I feel is oh so! new to me
I can't tell you the way I feel
Because the way I feel is oh so! new to me

This is confusion, am I confusing you?
This is confusion, am I confusing you?
This is peculiar we don't want to feel you
This is peculiar we don't want to feel you

Yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah

Yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah

Up in the Sky lyrics

Up in the Sky lyrics

Up in the sky, there is a village
And the people there are blue, I believe it's true
Up in the sky, people are happy
They love to sing and there is no need for a king

Up in the sky, nothing is insane
Like a rocket driven plane you can fly above the rain
Up in the sky, you just feel fine
There is no running out of time and you never cross a line

I never want to die
I wanna live in the sky

Up in the sky, you can fly
You will make it if you try
In the sky you are far away

Up in the sky you can sing
And you can do everything
And no matter what they say it's true
I'm going to the blue

Up in the sky, there's no religion
There are no cars and no phones and you can't not be controlled
Up in the sky, you just feel fine
There is no money making crime but a lot of good wine

I never want to die
I wanna live in the sky

Up in the sky, you can fly
You will make it if you try
In the sky you are far away

Up in the sky you can sing
And you can do everything
And no matter what they say it's true
I'm going to the blue

I'm going to the blue
Into the blue

Wanna live up in the sky
Wanna live up in the sky (2x)
Up in the sky

Up in the sky, you can fly
You will make it if you try
In the sky you are far away

Up in the sky you can sing
And you can do everything
And no matter what they say it's true
I'm going to the blue
